A life in colour

I visit the Dovecot every time I am in Edinburgh and this was the best exhibition to date. I am unfamiliar with Bernat Klein’s work – but found his textural paintings the most inspiring. He manages to the integrate oil paint and textiles in a really interesting way. It is only when you go up close that you see the patterns and the materials in real detail. On some of the pieces he lets the textile protrude from the canvas.

Kwang Young Chun’s work was also new to me and just spectacular. He does a drawing onto a prepared canvas or form and then places wrapped triangular boxes onto the sketch. The paper is from old Korean text books. The result is – i think – fantastic. The work has impact – both in term of materials and narrative.
